Message from the Broker at Santa Fe One Realty

Santa Fe enjoys wonderful traditions and celebrations throughout the year. Fiesta's de Santa Fe celebrates the re-conquest of Santa Fe by the Spanish. One of the more popular events during Fiesta week (after Labor Day), is the burning of Zozobra, or Old Man gloom. Twenty thousand spectators gather at Fort Marcy Park, to watch the festivities of musicians, fire dancers, glooms and fireworks. As Zozobra burns, so does the gloom of the past year burn away. I am a Kiwanian and my son was a gloom dancing under Zozobra this year. Zozobra is sponsored by The Santa Fe Downtown Kiwanis Foundation and the event raises funds for scholarships and charities in the Santa Fe area. For more information visit: zozobra.com

Parade of Homes during August highlighted some of the finest new home building in the Santa Fe area. In last month's newsletter I highlighted some builders, but I feel the need to broaden the builder list for your consideration. These are builders who pay attention to design and flow, who understand the need for open spaces and natural light.

Buyer Tips

Homeowner Insurance in New Mexico
Many underwriters are pulling out of New Mexico, so all buyer's are advised to begin shopping for insurance as soon as your property goes under contract. Know it is also taking more time to process the new homeowner's insurance, so do not wait until the week of closing to find out you will not be insured.

Building Fee Hike
The Santa Fe City Council passes building-fee hike. The result will raise the cost of building by thousands of dollars next year. We Realtors and Builders fought this measure, but I guess city hall needs more funds to continue it's lack of leadership in: water management, no new convention center, and lack of progress on the rail yard development. All these area could be earning the city much more money than another double taxation. Attention City hall - act on behalf of the needs of Santa Fe!
